The structure is supported by three cable-stayed bridges, using 400,000 tons of steel.

It is also designed to withstand winds of up to 340 kph, according to the Guardian.

The bridge includes a 6.7 km long submerged tunnel between two artificial islands in shallow waters.

The bridge connects the Greater Bay Area across southern China and encompasses 11 cities in the region.

The bridge was completed after nearly nine years and cost nearly $20 billion.

The bridge was originally supposed to open in 2016, but was hit with repeated delays.
