Top Dems, CNN targeted in 'act of terror'

**EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: RESENDING STORY TO INCLUDE PHOTOGRAPH OF DANGEROUS PACKAGE NEAR THE TOP OF THE STORY** (SOUNDBITE) (English) PRESIDENT TRUMP, SAYING: "In these times, we have to unify.

We have to come together and send one very clear strong unmistakable message that threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America." President Trump Wednesday, warning that justice would be served to whomever was responsible for sending dangerous packages through the mail to top Democrats and the CNN bureau in New York.

The intercepted packages contained what were believed to explosive devices.

They were sent to former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, former U.S. President Barack Obama and CNN in New York.

Police say the package sent to CNN contained a live bomb and an envelope with white powder.

This clearly is an act of terror." CNN has been a frequent target of President Trump who has labeled the network's coverage as "fake news." CNN says the package it received was addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, a periodic commentator on the network, and outspoken critic of the president.

The incidents come less than two weeks before the U.S. congressional midterm elections -- adding heightened tensions at a time when Democrats are challenging the majorities held by Trump's Republicans in Congress.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said a suspicious package was sent to his Manhattan office.

Democratic Representative Maxine Waters was also reportedly targeted.

In Florida, a suspicious package arrived at the office of U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a former Democratic Party national chairwoman.

The package was reportedly addressed to former Attorney General Eric Holder.

Earlier in the week, a suspicious package was found at the New York suburban home of George Soros, a major Democratic Party donor.

No one was injured by any of the packages.

And authorities are investigating whether there's a link.
