Tells them not to expect key posts on the basis of fan club experience alone

Actor Rajinikanth told his supporters on Tuesday that they shouldn’t harbour hopes of wielding influence in the Rajini Makkal Mandram merely because they had been members of his fan clubs for several decades.

In a statement, Mr. Rajinikanth said it would not be wise for his supporters to think that they could change outcomes in politics merely on the basis of their fan club experience. He also sought to reject rumours that the disciplinary action initiated against some of his supporters did not have his approval. “Without the support of the people, we cannot do anything in politics,” he said. He reiterated his earlier statement that those who were merely after posts should not join his [proposed] party.

Mr. Rajinikanth said party posts should be given to like-minded people. “We only removed [from the Mandram] those who were neither working nor allowing others to work,” he said.
