Valmiki Jayanti: Celebrating the great Adikavi Maharishi Valmiki

Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated every year as the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, the great sage and author who wrote the Hindu epic Ramayana. He is also known as the ‘Adikavi’- the first poet of Sanskrit Literature. The date falls on the full moon day of the month of Ashwin according to the Hindu calendar and is also celebrated as Pragat Diwas in north India.
