New Delhi, The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would hear within the next two days a petition filed by Central Bureau of Investigation Director Alok Verma, challenging the Union government’s decision to send him on leave.
Mr Verma had moved the apex court and challenged the Central government decision to send him on leave indefinitely.
His counsel, Gopal Shankarnarayanan, mentioned the matter before a three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
He had sought an urgent hearing into the case which involved a bitter feud within the highest echelons of the nation’s premier investigative agency.
After listening to contentions from the counsel, the Justices held, “We will hear the petition on Friday,.”
Mr Shankarnarayanan informed the bench that the Union of India had today asked Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana, to go on leave. He contended that if they go on leave, investigation of many cases would be compromised. The bench also comprised Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K M Joseph.
