THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Pointing to the marked increase in cybercrime complaints, Women’s Commission member MS Thara has called for stringent laws and legal action against those who indulge in the same.

There were numerous cybercrime and family dispute cases at the Women’s Commission Adalat held on Tuesday. Thara said youths who are not highly educated are more actively involved on social media. She said awareness and time-bound legal action should be taken in such cases.

A girl had filed a complaint against a neighbour who had taken her provocative photograph after threatening her. He then posted the photo on social media. The commission warned the youth and kept aside the case for further legal action. The most number of complaints were related to domestic disputes. Of the 35 cases considered at the Adalat, six were settled and 27 cases will be considered at the next mini adalat.
