The Smackdown Live episode this week saw the focus shifting to the eight-man WWE World Cup tournament which will take place at the Crown Jewel event at Saudi Arabia on November 2, 2018. The Miz, who is one of the participants in the tournament, invited another co-participant Rey Mysterio on his show the Miz TV. With the Miz disparaging Mysterio’s return, an impromptu match between the two superstars was announced by the Smackdown Live General Manager Paige.

Mysterio immediately attacked The Miz from the get-go, not letting him take control in the match. The Miz tried to find his openings and used his size to take down the former World Champion. Rey caught Miz off guard with a headscissors and then delivered a picture-perfect 619. He then dropped down from the top rope and pinned him down for three counts to pick up the win.

Later, ahead of the main event between Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy, who both will be participating in the WWE World Cup, WWE Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon came out to give a buildup to the tournament. In a hilarious moment, McMahon asked the WWE Universe, who could win the tournament to become the Best in the World, which prompted the crowd to chant “CM Punk, CM Punk” (the former WWE Champion was self-proclaimed “Best in the World”). In response, McMahon said: “I don’t believe he is in the tournament.”

In the match, The Viper backdropped Hardy onto the announcer’s table at the start of the match. The Charismatic Enigma countered with a Whisper in the Wind and a Twist of Fate to his opponent. But just when Hardy climbed to the ropes to deliver a Swanton Bomb, the Apex Predator rolled out of the ring on to the floor.

Hardy threw caution to the wind and gave a Swanton bomb to Hardy on the floor outside the ring. But The Viper slithered away and Hardy slammed hard on the floor. A minute later, Orton delivered an RKO to Hardy to pick up the win.
