The dark world of a bush doof king: Earthcore founder, 45, who died in police custody spiralled into paranoia after 'campaign of bullying by festival rivals' - and he left behind huge debts
- Spiro Boursine was desperate to close down an offensive Facebook page
- Boursine owed tens of thousands of dollars to people all over the world
- The paranoid organiser hired goons to stand over creditors and detractors
The founder of controversial bush trance festival Earthcore was obsessed in the days before his death about a Facebook page dedicated to taking the Mickey out of him.
Spiro Boursine (also known as Spiro Boursinos) died in custody after police arrested him following an altercation at the Antique Bar in Elsternwick last Saturday.
His death came amid a mountain of online criticism aimed at Boursine over his failure to pay people from previous events.

Brendan Kelly, whose Pyalong property held the festival from 2013-2016, said Mr Boursine was so obsessed with the page that he not only employed lawyers to have him take it down, but hired goons to intimidate him.
The farmer said he was not even behind the Earthcore Memes page, which was removed from Facebook in the days following Mr Boursine's death.
The site ruthlessly mocked Mr Boursine about everything from his failure to pay acts to his shoddy business practices.
'It was funny as f**k,' Mr Kelly said. 'It was a thorn in his side. It was making him angry. It had been gathering momentum of late ... he just couldn't work out who the f**k was running that Earthcore Memes page and that was driving him wild.'
Mr Boursine was put under further pressure last week when Ararat Shire Council rejected a site application for Earthcore 2018: 25th Anniversary, which was to take place next month.
The event still does not have a site address, stating it will be held in 'regional Victoria.'

It remains unclear exactly how the 45-year old died, with speculation Mr Boursine was under the influence of illicit drugs.
Police say Mr Boursine was involved in a fight at the inner-city suburb bar at around 2.15am and had to be pinned down by fellow patrons before police arrived.
After losing consciousness, paramedics rushed to the scene but attempts to resuscitate him failed.

Mr Kelly described Mr Boursine as a 'loose cannon' who didn't have much of a head for business.
'He was pretty erratic, highly strung sort of individual. It just got worse and it was all over money and his lack of ability to handle money,' he said. 'A bit of gear doesn't help either. There was always a drama with him.'
Mr Boursine was widely criticised in the lead-up to last year's festival, with headline acts including the Tel Aviv duo Coming Soon and trance act Phaxe taking to social media to slam the promoter.

Bad news followed Earthcore leading up to Spiro Boursine's untimely death
'We want to let you know that we have cancelled earthcore Festival this year,' Coming Soon wrote at the time.
'The reason for the cancellation is because the owner of this festival didn’t pay us until now, and didn’t even book a flight…[This is] after many threats of cancelling us if we will not be patient.'
'We have to mention that [we’ve never been] treated like that ever in our 15 years in the industry and we will never work with this promoter ever again.'
Mr Kelly said Mr Boursine died owning him about $40,000 from past events but got annoyed whenever he was asked for payment.
'About 12-months ago he got some heavy to call me up ... he was just a f**kin peanut. He said he had seven containers on my property and if he didn't get access to them by tomorrow lunchtime, thing were gonna get heavy,' Mr Kelly said.
He described Mr Boursine as a 'nasty piece of work' who thought he was pretty well connected in the underworld.

Last year's festival in Elmore festival was marred by allegations of sexual assaults, with a 23-year-old Dandenong man charged with two counts of indecent assault and one count of unlawful assault.
Mr Kelly reckons people involved with the Elmore festival were still waiting for payment too.
'In the end I gave up. All the bloke's got is a f**kin' laptop, a mobile phone and half-a-packet of PJ Super Milds,' he said.
It was Mr Boursine's love of cigarettes, and possibly other substances, that may have contributed to his untimely demise.
'He would have been full as a Tokyo state school and whatever else,' Mr Kelly said.
While he never personally saw Mr Boursine take drugs, he claimed the promoter had a party reputation.
'He had trouble with his heart there a few years ago and he didn't change his habits really. He still lived the same lifestyle,' Mr Kelly said.
While administrators of Earthcore's Facebook page have pledged the 'show must go on', Mr Kelly believes the festival should die along with its founder.
'Spiro and the brand are one and the same ... If anyone brings that brand back there's a lot of people out there who have been done wrong by it and ripped off by it' he said.
'It's best that that brand goes in the hole with Spiro.'
