CHENNAI: A life-size statue of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa will be unveiled soon at the AIADMK headquarters in Royapettah, Chennai. The bronze statue made by veteran sculptor Rajkumar Vudayar, reached the city on Tuesday.
Previously, when a life-size statue of Jayalalithaa was unveiled at the AIADMK headquarters on her 70th birth anniversary, many were disappointed as the statue didn't look like the former AIADMK chief.
The statue's lack of resemblance to the late leader became a topic of discussion on many social networking sites.
Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami ordered creation of another statue of Jayalalithaa. It took almost five months for Rajkumar Vadavar to finish the work. "It was challenging. The statue is eight-foot-tall. I think I have recreated Amma's features on the statue. I hope it has come out well," said the Godavari-based sculptor.
A possible date on which the statue would be unveiled has not been declared yet. "We are planning to unveil the statue in a couple of days. All final touches are done," he said.
