IIT Madras is hosting the 27th International Workshop on Vertex Detectors. Vertex is a major annual series of international workshops for physicists and engineers from the high energy and nuclear physics community. The ongoing workshop will be held until October 26.
Indian experimental groups are participating in many international experiments such as BELLE-II, Japan, CMS and Alice at CERN, Switzerland. The Indian CMS experimental group is proposing to build part of silicon tracker and high-granular calorimeter as part of CMS experiment at CERN for future upgrade.
This effort is being pursued collectively by several institutes in India. This is the first major effort by Indian High Energy Physics (HEP) community toward silicon detector. The conference is an excellent opportunity for interaction with international experts.
Speaking about the importance of VERTEX 2018, Prafulla Kumar Behera, Associate Professor, IIT Madras, Department of Physics, which is coordinating the event said, “Indian EHEP community are looking to develop this technology in India and it is being recognised by International community.”
The group at IIT Madras is actively involved in HgCAL as well as silicon tracker detector upgrade for CMS experiment at CERN. They are planning to contribute to the future development of silicon detector. VERTEX 2018 provides an international forum to exchange the experiences and needs of the community. The workshop will cover a wide range of topic such as existing and future detectors, new developments, radiation hardness, simulation, tracking and vertexing, electronics and triggering, applications to medical and related fields.
