THOOTHUKUDI: As a woman Sub-Inspector attached to Kulasekarapattinam police station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank police officer working in Chennai have lodged complaints against each other here on Tuesday alleging that they were assaulted by the other during the Dussehra festival of Kulasekarapattinam Mutharaman temple, an inquiry has been initiated.

Sources said that DSP Muthukumar, working in Chief Office, Chennai, had allegedly assaulted SI S Sathyabama when the latter was on duty at the temple on October 20, 2018. The DSP clad in civil dress arrived here along with his family members to offer worship at around 11.30 pm. The family was allegedly escorted by an intelligence staff via an exit way and subsequently stopped by Sathyabama. When the SI pointed out that the DSP’s inappropriate entry hindered the exit of devotees, a heated argument was erupted. When the altercation intensified, the DSP allegedly assaulted her and pushed her down. Sustaining injuries, the SI received treatment at a hospital, sources added.

Demanding action against Muthukumar, Satyabama lodged a complaint at Kulasekarapattinam police station. Meanwhile, the DSP also filed a counter complaint, in which, he accused Satyabama of using filthy language. He also alleged that the SI assaulted his wife and daughter. Though police received the complaints, no FIR was filed until Tuesday evening. Further inquiry is on.
