This is the shocking moment a car slams into the front of another vehicle before rebounding and skidding into a third waiting at a set of lights.

Three people were taken to hospital following the multi-car collision in Melbourne at 11.45pm on October 15.

Dashcam footage of the horror crash shows a black Proton coupe travelling north on Smith Street before smashing into the front of the silver Ford sedan travelling west on Alexander Parade.

The coupe allegedly ran a red light before being t-boned by the sedan.

The coupe can be seen skidding along the road before it collides with three cars waiting at the traffic lights, smashing their windshields.

The coupe also spun into a nearby tram shelter, causing significant damage.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is under police guard.

A police spokeswoman would not say if charges had been laid.

The driver of the silver Ford sedan, a 46-year-old man and his 58-year-old female passenger, were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A driver of a third vehicle, a 54-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Three other people from the remaining two vehicles were uninjured.
