NOIDA: The Noida Authority is setting up an old-age shelter home in Sector 62, which will also house a shelter for children. The five-storey “Dada Dadi Park”, which is being built at a cost of Rs 15.65 crore, is scheduled to be completed by December this year. The project also includes 5.5 acres of green spaces adjacent to the facility.
The project, which began in July 2016, will be able to house 208 senior citizens as well as 160 children. Once delivered, the state government will appoint an agency to look after the home, Authority officials said. “Civil work, which is being done at a cost of Rs 12.07 crore, is 99% complete. Electrical work is about 40% complete,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager (projects), Noida Authority.
The home will also have a prayer room, activity area, library, physiotherapy-cum-medical-emergency room and vocational training room. “Each of the four floors of the building will have eight rooms with four beds, 11 rooms with two beds and two 10-bed dormitories. Each floor will also have a common area,” Tyagi said.
Officials said the home, which is being built on a plot of 4,300sqm, will be dedicated to homeless elderly people. “There have been incidents of senior citizens being abandoned or lost, with no place to stay in. This place will be dedicated to these needy people,” said Tyagi.
Similar homes are being built by the state government in other districts, including Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Pilibhit, Rai Bareilly and Varanasi.
