Lethal weapons seized

Surprise checks in the houses of history-sheeters in the twin cities by the police on Tuesday yielded several lethal weapons.

The police, in different groups, began checks early in the morning and continued the searches till afternoon. In all, houses of 12 history-sheeters in Dharwad and 43 in Hubballi were searched by the police.

Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police B.S. Nemagouda and Assistant Commissioner of Police N.B. Sakri, the police conducted searches simultaneously at various localities. The lethal weapons seized during the raids included three air guns, machetes, daggers, baton knives and swords.

A search in the house of Junaid Mulla in Sadarsofa in Kasabapet Police Station limits yielded two daggers and two two-wheelers.

Police Commissioner M.N. Nagaraj told presspersons that the searches were aimed at sending out a strong signal to anti-social elements. Some history-sheeters who were said to be absconding were taken into custody during the searches, he said.

In Dharwad, the police seized 90 grams of ganja from history-sheeter Vishnu Kondapalli and registered a case against him, the Commissioner said.
