Airport Authority of India (AAI) will spend ₹1.14 crore for various welfare activities in the district. Much of the fund will
be used for reconstruction of 16 roads damaged in the floods that devastated many areas in the district in the third week of August.
AAI will spend ₹1.14 crore under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme. Calicut International Airport director K.
Sreenivasa Rao and District Collector Amit Meena signed a memorandum of understanding here on Wednesday.
P.K. Kunhalikutty and E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MPs, were present on the occasion.
Apart from reconstructing the 16 roads, AAI will take up two other projects in Pallikkal and Kalpakanchery panchayats. AAI officials said that all projects would be completed in the current financial year.
As much as ₹30 lakh has been set aside for reconstruction of the roads in tribal area, which had suffered heavily in the floods.
Officials said that special attention would be given to tribal areas.
Among the roads to be reconstructed are Mundakkadavu ST Colony Road in Karulai panchayat, Plakkal Chola ST Colony Road in Chaliyar panchayat, Vengad ST Colony Road in Chaliyar panchayat, Manjeeri ST Colony Road in Karulai panchayat, and Chelara ST Colony Road in Edavanna panchayat.
AAI will spend ₹40 lakh for a drinking water project in Ward 6 of Pallikkal grama panchayat.
It will also construct a homoeo hospital in Kalpakanchery panchayat by spending ₹44 lakh.
Towards CMDRF
Mr. Rao also handed over ₹2.69 lakh collected from the airport employees towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.
