Georgia election officials must stop rejecting absentee ballots, because of a mismatched signature.
They now have to give voters a chance to fix the problem.

In georgia, rejected absentee ballots and pending voter registration has gained attention.
Election officials in our area say they are seeing these issues pop up, but not in alarming numbers.
Some georgia voters are heading to the polls to vote early, while others are sending in absentee ballots.
In catoosa county, election officials say they had to reject 15 absentee ballots.

So we can verify that is who voted.
That is what we do, we actually pull the registration card up, we look at it and make sure the signatures match.
And normally that is what happens, people just don't follow instructions."
Today a federal judge decided in georgia absentee ballots can't be rejected because of a mismatched signature without first giving voters a chance to fix the problem.
In the governor's race, this voting issue and others like pending voter registration, have been topics of discussion.
In walker county, there are 40 cases.
Election officials say that's normal.
Danielle montgomery/ walker county election supervisor "maybe when they registered to vote they registered as jim smith and their name is james smith, so when it compared to drivers license services or to social security administration it flagged it because his name is james.
So all they have to do is bring their photo id and we will make the connection and they will be allowed to vote as well."
Another reason for voter registration being held up, is age.
Rickey kittle/election board chairman "some of them will be 17 and a half year olds which are not eligible yet, but you can register at 17 and a half, so we will have about 20 or 30 of those that are pending."
The federal judge says election officials will have until noon on thursday to comment if they think her absentee ballot order is confusing or unworkable.
