European Countries Weigh Saudi Arabia Arms Deals

The death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi has some European countries weighing their arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday, Spain's parliament voted against freezing its weapons sales to Saudi Arabia, despite calls to stop conducting business with the country over Khashoggi's death.

And British Prime Minister Theresa May took a similar stance.

She told Parliament Wednesday, "The procedures we follow are among the strictest in the world." But Germany  decided to halt future arms deals  with Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

Chancellor Angela Merkel said arms exports "can't take place in the current circumstances."  As  The Associated Press  notes, Europe has sold billions of dollars' worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia over the years.
