
The central government has cleared the appointment of new Chief Justices for High Courts of Bombay, Calcutta, Uttarakhand, Gauhati and Sikkim. Bombay High Court judge N H Patil has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. Patil was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court in October 2001.
Similarly, Calcutta High Court judge Justice D K Gupta has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Gupta, a member of the bar, was elevated as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court in June 2006. He has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court since September 25 this year.
Karnataka High Court judge Justice Ajjkuttira Somaiah Bopanna has been appointed as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. He was appointed as permanent judge in March 2007.
Hyderabad High Court judge Ramesh Ranganathan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court. He was appointed a permanent judge in February 2000 — and previously served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court from July 30, 2016 to July 6, 2018.
Uttarakhand High Court judge V K Bist has been appointed has Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court. Justice Bist was elevated as the judge Uttarakhand High Court in 2008.
