NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Due to the hands-on nature of design education, many people would be surprised to find that this is a degree program that you can complete online. There are plenty of these types of programs popping up all over the country. These programs were recently ranked by OnlineCollegePlan.com in an article titled the Top 15 Online Interior Design Degree Programs, which you can read here: https://www.onlinecollegeplan.com/rankings/best-online-interior-design-degree-programs/
Research editor, Anne Velusa, explains that interior design is a much more technical field than it is believed to be. Interior design programs cover the typical design topics but also put emphasis on sustainability and functionality of a space. Some skills that students will graduate with include reading and creating blueprints, as well as using CAD software. The top-ranked school can do all of that and more based on the needs of its students. The New York School of Interior Design was founded in the early 1900's and teaches solely interior design in seven different programs of study. The school is home to the only graduate programs in the field that are ranked in the top five by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and maintain proper accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Commission on Accreditation.
Schools like SCAD, the Boston Architectural College, and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh all appear in this ranking, which isn't much of a surprise. But, other schools that you wouldn't expect to see among this list also offer incredible programs in interior design. Even over in the Cornhusker State, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has an online asynchronous Master of Science in Architecture with a specialization in Interior Design. It has been recognized as being in the top ten of this type of program nationwide by the magazine DesignIntelligence.
