Police report they got a call at 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 29 about a man who was bleeding and barely conscious on the ground off of North Main Street.

FALL RIVER – Prosecutors must determine the fate of the case against Kenneth Cabral, charged with beating a man bloody to collect money owed.

Cabral is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 1 to begin the process.

Cabral was arrested Oct. 1 following an incident on Sept. 29 on North Main Street.

He is free on $500 bail after spending 10 days in the house of correction.

The case goes to prosecutors in the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, who must decide if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial in Superior Court. Cabral is charged with several felonies.

Police report they got a call at 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 29 about a man who was bleeding and barely conscious on the ground off of North Main Street.

Officers Edmond Desmarais, Wendall Burks and Henry Ramos searched the area and report they located a 39-year-old man they knew in the alley beside 742 N. Main St. He was bleeding from his mouth and nose and complaining of injuries to most of his body.

The man alleged to police that he was in his apartment on North Main Street when four men, led by Cabral, barged in and demanded $140 he owed in overdue rent.

The men knocked him down, punched and kicked him and stomped on his chest and legs, police allege. The victim alleged Cabral was carrying a knife when he entered the home.

Cabral was contacted by police and surrendered on Oct. 1.

He was charged with home invasion, armed assault in a dwelling house, robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery to collect a loan.

The charge of home invasion while armed is the most serious. It carries a penalty of 20 years to life.
