Revamping an old vintage cupboard doesn't have to be expensive.
And mother-of-six Joelle Skinner found a clever way to transform an old sideboard into a modern creation by using a $10 shower curtain she purchased from Kmart.
The 36-year-old, from Queensland, said she wanted to give the dull household item, which is used to store board games, a 'cool mid-century look' but on a budget.

The 36-year-old, from Queensland, said she wanted to give the vintage household item, which is used to store board games a 'cool mid-century look' but on a budget
'I've had this idea for a while but only did it last week to get through a touch time,' she told Daily Mail Australia.
'Ever since I saw the gorgeous mid century print on the shower curtains at Kmart, I wanted to use them in our home but just didn't know how.
'And then when it finally hit me, it took a bit of courage to actually do it because it's quite a bold, busy pattern. Thankfully it's easily reversible so it's not like I was committed to it for life.
'In person, it feels really nice to run your hand over. I deliberately didn't try to line up the pattern between each door/drawer to keep the almost hand painted feel of it. Overall, it fits in with our whole home so well.'

The clever mother shared her tricks to revamping her old sideboard by using a shower curtain
She explained the method she used to redecorate her sideboard is 'decoupage'.
'First I dismantled the cupboard doors and removed the handles. Then I used mod podge [ a water based glue] to stick the curtains on, smoothing as I went,' she said.
'And then a final coat on top to seal it. And once they were dried, all I had to do was trimmed the edges and then reassembled everything.
'It was exciting once I reattached the final door and got to stand back and finally see how it looked. Took a couple of days to get used to the busy pattern which is a far cry from the plain white it was before, but I'm so happy with it now.'
After tragically losing her baby daughter, the grieving mother said she found solace through giving her home a trendy makeover.

'I actually use my creative outlet to give me a little breathing room from my debilitating grief,' she explained.
'My mind is constantly coming up with ideas and working things out before I finally take the plunge and go for it.'
Taking to her Facebook group Jedi Mum Tricks, she shared her stunning creation.
'This is what happens when you spend hours waiting for school uniforms to wash and dry each night,' she said.
'Right next to the lounge room is this sideboard we use to store our board games. In between my Netflix binges, I've looked up and my mind started going into hack mode.
'So old vintage sideboard, meets shower curtain, and we have a cool mid century look.'
