Mumbai: Assailants stabbed Akash Jadhav, convicted in the Shakti Mills gang rape case, in Agripada on Monday. Jadhav, 22, who sustained four deep wounds, was rushed to the civic-run Nair Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Jadhav has been shifted to the ward and his condition is stable. A doctor said that a part of Jadhav’s intestine was damaged in the attack.

The police suspect personal rivalry as the motive for the attack. Senior police inspector Saviaram Agawane said Jadhav’s statement was taken after he gained consciousness on Tuesday. Mr. Agawane said, “We are investigating the case. We are also looking into what he was doing in the city. However, no arrests have been made so far in the case.” Jadhav was 17 years old when he was convicted in the 2013 Shakti Mills rape case. He will be booked under Section 142 of the Bombay Police Act for entering the city without permission despite being externed for two years.
