VILLUPURAM: Wreaking havoc on a family twice in two days, the three-year-old son of a pregnant woman, who succumbed to swine flu on Sunday, tested positive for the disease and was admitted to Puducherry Jipmer on Monday.

Sources said that Panjabikesan (35) of Koothapakkam village near Vanur was employed at a private company in Puducherry. His wife Suganya (27) was nine months pregnant when she was tested positive for swine flu. Despite receiving treatment at Jipmer, she succumbed to the disease on Sunday. Her body was taken to Koothapakkam and buried on the same day.

A medical team was sent to the victim’s village to examine the residents on Monday. There they received information that Suganya’s three-year-old son Yashwanth was suffering from fever. Test results confirmed him to be infected with the virus and the team immediately sent the boy to the Jipmer.

House owner fined

On Tuesday morning, Collector L Subramanian inspected houses at Kandamangalam. During his door-to-door check, the Collector cautioned residents against allowing water to stagnate anywhere. One Selvi in the village reportedly had left the water to stagnate on the roof of her under-construction house. As mosquito larvae were found in the puddle, the Collector ordered her to pay Rs 10,000 as a penalty.
