Vadodara: The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has sent a fresh memorandum of understanding (MOU) to M S University for hiring the DN Hall cricket ground located in the campus. The association has sought the ground till August 2020 for developing cricket facilities of MSU teams and for improving overall cricketing facilities.

As per the proposed MOU, BCA will sponsor the university teams including all expenses for participating in the tournaments apart from coaching camps and food. The association would also provide clothing and kit bags for the approved tournaments. Also, BCA won’t charge any participation fees from MSU teams for its tournaments.

Also, it has been proposed that the executive committee for deciding selection committee of MSU’s men and women’s cricket will consist of director, physical education, teacher (in-charge), cricket, MSU, one syndicate member nominated by MSU vice-chancellor, secretary and joint secretary of BCA and one member nominated by the BCA. MSU is expected to take up the proposed MOU in its syndicate meeting.

BCA had signed MOU with MSU for using the DN Hall cricket ground many years ago. The MOU was to be renewed in 2016 but neither BCA nor MSU did the formalities. BCA though kept organizing the tournaments at DN Hall till September this year when MSU refused to allot the ground for the J Y Lele National Cricket Tournament. MSU cited the lapse of MOU for the refusal but BCA officials said that there were other reasons too.

“MSU said that BCA had charged Rs one lakh entry fees for the tournament and hence it’s a commercial activity. But we had charged the fees to restrict the number of teams and also improve the quality of the tournament. But one of the main reasons was BCA’s refusal to nominate MSU syndicate member Jigar Inamdar in its managing committee,” a BCA official said. BCA had cited Lodha committee’s status quo order for not including Inamdar in its committee.
