This is the moment an enormous emu finds a new way to beat the heat as a tiny family dog looks on with disapproval.

Footage shows beloved family pet ‘Eemie’ the emu examining a water sprinkler in a back garden in South Australia.

The two metre high flightless bird is seen pecking curiously at the sprinkler before swiftly sitting down right on top of it.

This is the moment an enormous emu finds a new way to beat the heat as a much smaller family dog looks on, incensed

The bird remains there for some time, blocking the water flow and clearly enjoying the cooling sensation, before getting to its feet again and ruffling its feathers.

Eemie then approaches the tiny family dog who has been watching the whole episode cautiously.

The small brown and white dog takes his opportunity to vent his frustration with some defensive barks, his tail wagging throughout.

The person filming giggles as the emu backs off, returns to the water sprinkler and resumes his position.

Keeping emus as pets is an unconventional but increasingly popular trend, and according to documentation from the Victoria State Government, they are strong swimmers and ‘love to play in water and mud’.
