Left party leader scotches rumours

Clarifying that the CPI will not pull out of the “Praja kutami” (People’s alliance), CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said that they will make adjustments in seat sharing with the allies, but will not come out of it.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that the CPI had asked for 12 Assembly seats as part of seat sharing and proposed the names of nine candidates.

The parties in the People Alliance had not discussed about the allocation of only three seats to the CPI, but news ‘leaked’ that only two or three seats were being allocated to the CPI, he maintained.

However, the CPI would not accept if they were allocated only three seats. “We want our representation in north and south Telangana and also in Hyderabad,” he stated.

He also clarified that he would contest from the Husnabad Assembly segment if the seat was allocated to the CPI and scotched the rumours that he was going to contest from Ramagundam. He reiterated that they would be with the Peoples Alliance parties and defeat the TRS government for its anti-people policies and autocratic rule.

He also complained that the candidates were flouting the Election Commission guidelines on expenditure and spending more than ₹ 10 crore for each Assembly segment against the norms of ₹ 28 lakh per candidate. He also stressed on the need for election reforms as no political party was securing 51 % of the votes in the elections.

Expressing concern over rampant corruption in the country, which had reached the highest offices like courts and the CBI, he demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi order an inquiry if was committed to eradicate corruption at all levels. CPI district secretary K. Ramgopal Reddy and others were also present.
