AGRA: The Self Finance College Association (SFCA) of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University has condemned the involvement of teachers, who have serious charges of corruption against them, in the 84th convocation ceremony of the university, scheduled on October 29.
SFCA president Brajesh Chaudhary and general secretary Ashutosh Pachori, in a letter to vice chancellor Arvind Kumar Dixit, have demanded immediate removal of four such teachers, who have been named in an FIR concerning corruption, from different committees concerning the convocation ceremony.
Last month, two former vice chancellors and 17 other senior employees and teachers of the varsity were booked for alleged financial discrepancies. A case was registered on a complaint of the state vigilance department, following a detailed investigation.
Talking to TOI, SPCA general secretary Ashutosh Pachori said, "The state vigilance had got an FIR registered against 19 people in a case of corruption after a detailed probe, following orders of the state government. But university administration so far has shown no interest in taking action against the accused. Earlier this month, it invited former vice chancellor DN Johar, an accused, to participate in the youth festival. Now, the university has given key responsibilities of convocation ceremony to tainted teachers. This is an open endorsement of corruption by the administration."
Chaudhary said, "Union home minister Rajnath Singh and governor Ram Naik, who is also the chancellor of the university, will be attending the convocation ceremony. The presence of tainted teachers as members of different committees around them will be an insult to them. We want the vice chancellor to immediately remove the four teachers, who have been named in the FIR, from all committees."
University public relation officer GS Sharma said, "Being named in an FIR does not prove anyone guilty. No changes will be made in any committee concerning the convocation ceremony."
The vigilance department, during the investigation, had found that senior officials and teachers of the university had siphoned off several crores of government funds by allotting tenders to their favorite vendors for purchase of office inventory like tables, chairs, coolers, OMR sheets etc.
