Two teenagers arrested after brutal Ringwood station assault
Two teenagers have been arrested after shocking footage of young man having his head violently stomped on at a Melbourne station was circulated on social media.
The first video, which was uploaded on Monday, showed a group of four young men walking up to the victim on the footpath outside what is believed to be Ringwood station.
A male in a white T-shirt then shoves the victim to the ground, before repeatedly kicking the teenager, a 14-year-old boy, and then jumping into the air and using both legs to stomp on his head.
Later on Monday afternoon, a second disturbing video emerged, which showed a young man cradling his head and cowering on the ground as he is repeatedly kicked and punched against a brick wall.
In the second video, which lasts just eight seconds, a young man dressed in black pants and white runners viciously punches the victim twice before he falls to the ground.
On Tuesday morning, detectives from the Transit Crime Investigation Unit arrested and charged two teenage males – a 17-year-old from Healesville and a 15-year-old from Croydon.
They are expected to face the Children's Court on Tuesday afternoon in relation to armed robbery and assault-related offences.
Police are yet to confirm if the two videos were linked or if they occurred on the same day, however they appear to have been taken at the same location with the young man leading the violent attack wearing similar clothing in both videos.
In the second video, the victim can be heard shouting for help during the attack.
It's understood the victim, a 14-year-old boy from the local area, was badly bruised but is recovering at home surrounded by his family.
Protective Services Officers patrol Ringwood station from 6pm until the last scheduled service.
The state opposition has committed to having PSOs patrol Ringwood station from 10am every day if it wins the election.
Federal Liberal MP Michael Sukkar, who is the member for the Deakin electorate, took to Facebook on Monday, saying the incident highlighted the need for more CCTV throughout Ringwood and Croydon.
"This assault at Ringwood train station is sickening," he wrote.
"Thugs like this don't deserve to be free on our streets; they must be identified and arrested as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
