HYDERABAD: Expressing dissatisfaction at the steps initiated by the Telangana government in checking child abuse and trafficking in the State, particularly in Yadadri, a Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the TRS government to make clear by Tuesday its stand on setting up a special court and a probe team to deal with sexual violence.

The government was also instructed to present before the Bench steps it had taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and the protection of minor victims.

The court questioned what the Intelligence Department was doing to stop rampant child prostitution in the temple town and observed that such organised crime would have been impossible in the absence of a nexus between police, government officials and pimps.

The Bench was looking into a PIL taken up after several news reports highlighted the occurrence of child prostitution in Yadadri. Also in the court’s line of fire were public prosecutors who failed to prevent bails from being granted to pimps and other accused in the cases. In response to the queries, Telangana advocate-general said 36 cases had been slapped against pimps in the temple town.

Not satisfied with the reply, the Bench questioned the A-G on how an RMP who injected minors with hormones - usually used on poultry - to make them voluptuous in return for money could be granted relief. The bench directed the DCP of Yadadri to appear before the court with full details of the incidents and set the date for next hearing on October 23.
