A woman and a girl are being airlifted to hospital after a jetty collapsed while they were fishing at a popular tourist island. 

Police and ambulance crews were alerted to the collapse of a jetty at Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, about 6.20 on Wednesday morning.

The woman, aged in her 30s, and the primary-school aged girl have been rushed to hospital after they were injured in the collapse.

Emergency services including a rescue helicopter are at the scene, a Western Australia Police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia. 

Three people were fishing off the jetty at Thomson Bay when it collapsed.

Two managed to swim to shore, however one person had their foot trapped after the collapse.

People nearby were able to rescue the person, a police spokesman said. 

There had been earlier reports that several people were trapped following the collapse, prompting an urgent emergency services response.
