As Diwali approaches and air quality index rises above 300 in parts of Delhi, the Supreme Court permitted the sale and manufacture of "green" crackers which have low emission across the country.

In Delhi, crackers will be allowed only in designated spots, which need to be identified within a week.

However, the Supreme Court restrained e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon from selling firecrackers.

The court said e-commerce websites will be hauled up for contempt of court if they don't adhere to the direction.
