To prepare a report on psychological problems of children in flood-hit areas

Kerala State Child Rights Commission chairman P. Suresh has said that stringent action will be taken against people who bring children at venues of agitation including tension-hit areas.

“Children have the right to agitate for their rights,” Mr. Suresh said at a press conference here on Monday. But the commission would act against those who bring children to places of agitation where a charged atmosphere prevailed, he added.

He said that Child Protection Committees (CPC) would be strengthened and awareness on child rights protection would be expanded. As part of the initiative over 40 workshops would be conducted across the State for law enforcement officers, doctors, teachers, parents and department officials at local body levels. In Kannur, the workshops would be held at Thalassery and Taliparamba, he added.

Complaint boxes

Awareness had to be created on child rights and laws. Though schools had been instructed to install complaint boxes, many were yet to have them, he said. Schools must have clean toilets. The commission would take stringent action if students are barred from buses and denied seats in buses.
