Dairy Road junction in Pattaravakkam scores low on the four essential parameters that determine road quality and motorists’ driving experience — illumination, road surface, digital traffic regulation and safety-enhancing features.
Located near Chennai Bypass in Pattaravakkam, Dairy Road junction witnesses an almost ceaseless procession of motorists seeking a shorter route to reach Anna Nagar and Tirumangalam from Ambattur, Mannurpet, Thirumullavoyal, J.J. Nagar and Maduravoyal. Besides, motorists from the interior parts of Mogappair East, Ambattur, Padi, Korattur, Nolambur and Anna Nagar West go through the junction to reach Maduravoyal, Porur and Tambaram via the Chennai Bypass Road.
More importantly, the junction is a vital point in the link between the industrial belts of Sriperambadur and Oragadam and the Kolkata Highway. It also provides access to the industrial sections of Ambattur and Pattaravakkam. With heavy goods-laden vehicles trundling down this road, it is bound to take a battering.
“During night, motorists from the Dairy Road cannot the vehicles coming in the opposite vehicles especially those coming from the ramp of the Chennai Bypass flyover due to bad street lights,” says K. Vasanth, a motorist from Korattur.
Besides poor street lights, the junction and its connecting roads including Diary Road is ridden with potholes and have an uneven surface. The junction does not have a working traffic signal, warning signage and reflectors.
Police patrol vehicles too can be seen only at the Ambattur Telephone Exchange traffic spot, which is around one km from Diary Road junction.
“Steps will be taken to re-lay the junction and the connecting stretches soon,” says a Corporation official.
