Rooter looks to expand its offering in Indian & International languages Sports fan engagement social platform Rooter is looking to expand its offering in Indian and international languages as it aims to increase the number of users it engages with.

It has already launched a Hindi version of its app, and will soon be introducing content in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, CEO Piyush Kumar told ET.

The company, which was selected to be a part of leAD, a sports accelerator run by Adidas in Berlin, will use this as a platform to launch in Europe.

“We’ve just launched in the GCC region with Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar with an Arabic version, along with local content around the Pro League in Saudi Arabia. We’ve created our technology such that it takes seven to ten days to customise it for different locations or languages,” said Kumar.

For Europe, Rooter will focus on the local football leagues like Bundlesliga and Seria A, where the content will be provided in local languages. Currently, Rooter has two million active users and Kumar said that the aim was to take this to 10 million by the end of the cricket world cup next year.

Over the past six months, Rooter has found its niche — focusing on engagement during the sports event and the sixty minutes before it, something Kumar said none of the other fan engagement apps currently offer.

“We are a live sports engagement platform, and this is what we will be focusing on. We also launched a web version for our games a month ago and about half the traffic now comes through the web,” he said.

Rooter offers free-to-play live games like prediction and draft fantasy game, and connects fans through live match chat rooms and personalised social feeds. “We are in the process of raising funds and hope to close the round before the world cup,” said Kumar.
