The Static Surveillance Team (SST) of the Election Commission seized ₹ 2.5 lakh from a businessman, Murkute Sagar, at Gudihatnoor in Adilabad district on Monday. The businessman, a resident of Vadgam in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, claimed that he was on his way to Karimnagar to purchase granite with the cash. However, as there was no proof to back his statement, the SST seized the cash.
In another incident, the Soan police in Nirmal district seized ₹3.14 lakh from a businessman at Gamjal toll plaza. The cash was being taken in a car from Bodhan to Adilabad by the businessman, who could not account for the money.
Khammam Special Correspondent writes: A flying squad entrusted with the task of enforcement of model code of conduct in the poll-bound Khammam constituency seized unaccounted cash of ₹ 10 lakh from a car near Dhamsalapuram under Khammam urban police station limits on Monday. The members of the squad during a vehicle checking drive detected the unaccounted money from the possession of a realtor travelling in the vehicle towards Bonakal late in the afternoon, sources said.
When the realtor reportedly failed to produce any proof, the officials seized the cash.
In a separate incident, the police recovered ₹1 crore cash while being transported in a car in the mandal headquarters town of Enkoor on Monday afternoon. Sources said that the occupants of the car reportedly produced bank receipts as a proof of source for the huge amount.
The local police referred the matter to the Income Tax officials for ascertaining the facts. Nizamabad Special Correspondent writes from Kamareddy: Police and revenue authorities seized cash accounting for Rs .8,49,600 being carried in a four-wheeler from Maharashtra to Telangana at the Salabatpur check-post in Madnur mandal on Monday evening.
In the routine inspection at the check post under the supervision of Revenue Divisional Officer, Banswada, S. Rajeswar, the police seized the cash.
The cash carrier, Choudary Rajesh, claimed to be hailing from Mudked in Nanded district said that he is a financier and the amount was the collection from borrowers.
