Pixar Co-Founder to Retire

Ed Catmull helped shape Disney’s animation studios and wrote a book on creativity that became popular among executives

LOS ANGELES -- Ed Catmull, the co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and a leading architect of Walt Disney Co.’s recent success in family animation, is leaving the company at the end of this year, the company said.

As president of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, Mr. Catmull, 73 years old, is responsible for leading the studios behind some of the most beloved animation titles of the past several years, including “Toy Story,” “Frozen,” “Inside Out” and “Up.”
