This is the shocking moment a thief swiped £200 from a young dad working in a newsagent's shop.

Dad-of-four Sion Davies, 28, was working at the Lifestyle Express newsagent's in Menai Bridge when the cash was snatched from behind the counter.

Mr Davies, from Llanfair PG, had taken the money out as he was about to pay bills he owed before a flurry of customers meant he put the money down to one side.

A man entered the shop and distracted him by asking for batteries and swiping the money when Mr Davies' back was turned last Friday evening.

He then claimed he needed to make a phone call to his girlfriend and left the store before Mr Davies realised that his hard-earned cash had been stolen.

He said: "I would never normally leave money on the side but my Mrs told me to make sure I pay the gas and electricity and I was about to pay my bills when three customers came in followed by this person.

"He told me to get batteries and I couldn't quite see him but after he made his excuses and left I found that the money had gone.

"That's £200 lost and I've got four kids to look after."

Mr Davies, who is employed to work in the shop by his girlfriend's parents, said the behaviour of the man did not appear to be too out of the ordinary.

He said: "It was about 10 minutes after he left that I realised the money had gone and it took about 20 minutes longer to check the CCTV and saw what had happened."

The footage of the man has now been shared widely on social media and Mr Davies said while he is sure the money will never be recovered, he was hopeful the footage would help others in the area be vigilant.

He said: "We need to single out this scum and make people aware that there are people in this community who would do this because it is not fair at all."

Mr Davies claimed he had not had much help from police following the incident, and said that he had not been visited by any officers in the wake of the crime.

He has provided the force with CCTV footage but has not had any correspondence about how the investigation is progressing.

He said: "I don't expect them to drop everything but this happened on Friday and I have heard nothing.

"I always help people out, I always pay my taxes, I don't do anything illegal, I keep my head down and I am a family man and I do all this and the police aren't there and I am a bit gutted."

However, he said the community had rallied behind him to provide support following the incident.

He said: "I can't believe how much good feedback and how supportive people have been.

"People have dropped off fivers for me and stuff.

"A load of the teenagers from Menai Bridge came in and I gave them copies of the picture of the guy on CCTV and they went out to try and find out who it was.

"There's always a silver lining to be had when bad things happen."

North Wales Police said they received a report of the theft on Friday, adding that the "crime is being investigated".
