Peace march to highlight women’s plight held in city

Pune: To send a strong message about violence against women, social workers and candidates of Mrs India Universe contest conducted a peace march from Pune district collectorate to police commissioner’s office on Monday. The participants carried placards of ‘We stand one’ against women’s issues and demanded that violence against women in the country should stop. They also met Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tejaswi Satpute. Speaking about the march, Nutan Vaishan, Director of Mrs India Universe, said that incidents of violence against women are increasing in the country. Therefore, there is a need to highlight these issues, so that things are brought under control. Another participant Archana Tomar, President of Mrs India Universe, highlighted the need to spread awareness on these issues
“We, a group of 51 female candidates of Mrs India Universe, thought of expressing our solidarity on these issues and planned the peace march,” added Archana.

Satpute appreciated the efforts made by these women. “It is great that we are speaking about such grave issues pertinent in the society. It is indeed appreciable that Mrs India Universe has chosen to highlight these issues and I wish them good luck,” she added.

Mrs India Universe is being held at Hotel Orchid in Balewadi from October 21 to 26.
