A Hawaiian Airlines flight from San Diego to Kahului Airport on Maui ended shortly Monday morning.
The airline mentioned in its official statement that one of the cockpit lights suddenly illuminated, indicating a possible issue with a component in one of the two engines that is required for extended over-water flying.
The pilot rerouted the plane and made an emergency landing at the Oakland International Airport, where the 178 passengers deplaned, and given meal vouchers.
Hawaiian Airlines says it has been working on accommodating those aboard with other available flights from the Bay Area to Hawaii.
Inspection into the aircraft is ongoing.
