Amid strong demand, there has been a large scale dumping of scrap aluminium with the industry asking the government to hike duty on such imports, the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) said in a statement
21.44% – Jump in aluminium scrap imports
6.57 lakh tonne – Scrap aluminium imported during first half of current fiscal
5.41 lakh tonne – Scrap aluminium imported during Apr-Sep period in FY18
4 mt per annum – Domestic aluminium making capacity
3.6 mt – Domestic consumption of aluminium
3.12 lakh tonne – Imports during first quarter of current fiscal
3.45 lakh tonne – Imports during the quarter ended September
10% – Increase in duty on scrap imports suggested against current 2.5%
