Inaugurates control room in Porur

The city has topped the districts when it comes to the number of CCTVs installed in the State, said A.K. Viswanathan, City Police Commissioner.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a CCTV control room at the Mangala Nagar Residents Welfare Association in Porur on Sunday. Madras High Court Justice R.M.T. Teeka Raman was also present on the occasion. A total of 54 cameras have been installed in over 20 streets in the locality.

Justice Teeka Raman said that CCTV footage was considered as an evidence in the court and was useful in preventing and detecting crime.

Addressing the audience, the Commissioner said that it was the first time he was inaugurating a CCTV control room of a residents welfare association. “Sitting in England, you can monitor what is happening in your house using a CCTV camera,” he added.
