PANAJI: Goa legislative party speaker Pramod Sawant met RSS sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat at Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Sunday and pitched his candidature for the chief minister’s post.
Sawant was accompanied by Union Ayush minister Shripad Naik during the visit. “Felicitated senior Ayurveda practitioner Dr. Kinjavadekar along with Sarsanghchalak #MohanjiBhagwat and Union AYUSH Minister Shripadbhau Naik #SanduAyurvedGauravSamaroh,” Sawant posted on Facebook.
Sources said that after the felicitation programme concluded, Sawant and Naik briefed Bhagwat about the political situation prevailing in the state.
Sawant has already spoken to BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal about his aspiration for the chief minister’s post.
The recent meeting between BJP national president Amit Shah and the party’s Goa coalition partners saw three names being discussed, including that of Sawant, BJP state unit president Vinay Tendulkar and health minister Vishwajit Rane.
Sawant is the only BJP MLA who comes from the RSS cadre. Rane, who switched from the Congress in 2017, is also lobbying for the top post. Party sources say that BJP is looking out for a young and dynamic leader who can lead the party in the next 15 years.
