BJP stoking regional passions: TDP

Kanna asked to pursue the High Court issue with his leadership

The TDP on Sunday accused the BJP of stoking regional passions for its vested interests. It urged BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana to convince his leadership to set up the High Court in the Rayalaseema region or Amaravati instead of making mere public statements. The TDP also found fault with YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for “compromising on State’s interests” to get a clean chit in the corruption cases.

The TDP’s reaction came in the wake of the BJP passing a resolution at the ‘Rayalaseema Praja Avedana Dharna’ in Anantapur on Saturday, asking the State and Central governments to set up the High Court in the Rayalaseema region and not a Bench as was being said by a few political parties.

I&PR Minister K. Srinivasulu, in a statement, said the BJP leaders were unable to question the Centre, which had taken back ₹350 crore from the account of the State government that was mean for the seven backward districts in the State. The BJP was also silent when there was no positive response from the Centre on the Mannavaram and other projects in Chittoor district.

Though there was no hand-holding by the Centre, the State government could develop the Rayalaseema region in all aspects.

TDP MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, in a separate statement, said the YSRCP leaders were resorting to “compromise politics” to ensure that the by-elections were not conducted for the Lok Sabha seats that had fallen vacant following the resignation of the YSRCP MPs.
