BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam unit of CPM on Sunday said the recent flood in the district was manmade.
After visiting the flood-affected areas of the district on Sunday, CPM Ganjam unit secretary Kailash Sadangi told newsmen that due to opening of gates of Harabhangi and Baghalati dams without prior information, flood water entered Soroda and Patrapur blocks. He said the flood devastated the two blocks and demanded a probe to ascertain the lapses and stringent action against those responsible for opening the gates of dams.

Alleging that the State Government’s relief work is meant to garner publicity, Sadangi said the calamity toll in the district may cross 100 soon. The reservoirs in the district have dried up due to opening of dam gates by the authorities, he added. The BJP district unit too came down on the State Government. The BJP Ganjam unit president Kanhu Charan Pati and State secretary Bibhuti Jena said the affected villages are yet to get relief even after 11 days of the calamity.
