The ashes of former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister N D Tiwari were immersed in the Ganga at Satighat Kankhal here Monday.

The ashes of the Congress veteran were immersed by his son Rohit Shekhar in the presence of his wife Apoorva, mother Ujjwala Tiwari and a host of close relatives.

The rituals were performed by the family's priest Sandip Bhakt.

Tiwari died at a private hospital in Delhi after prolonged illness at the age of 93 on October 18.
