Allahabad starts making transition to Prayagraj

ALLAHABAD: After governor Ram Naik approved the proposal to change the name of the city, all government departments in the district have now started the process to replace 'Allahabad' with the city's new name 'Prayagraj' on government sign boards and official communication. The district magistrate office was the first to sport the new name on Sunday.

DM Suhas LY wrote a letter to all departments, directing the officials to change the city's name in display and communication without any delay. The name would also be changed on gates, letter pads and name plates of officials.

"A notification from the state government's revenue department has notified that Governor Ram Naik has approved the proposal to change the name of the city and the order comes into force with immediate effect. However, it would not have any bearing on cases already in the court," the DM's letter says.

The sign boards on entry gates of the DM's office was first to be replaced with the new new name on Sunday while SSP Nitin Tiwari has directed his subordinates to use the city's new name while referring to the district police for official communication.

"I have directed my subordinates to replace the word Allahabad with Prayagraj in official documents. The city's new name should be written along with the name of police stations and other offices of the department. Police barricades and vehicles would also sport the new name in a day or two," Tiwari Said.

The state cabinet on October 16 had approved the proposal to change Allahabad's name to Prayagraj.
