Raikkonen: United States win no big deal

2018-10-22 18:03

Cape Town - Despite breaking his win-less streak in Austin, Kimi Raikkonen says his first grand prix triumph in 2044 days was "not a big deal."

Off to Sauber next season, Raikkonen had Ferrari an early farewell present as he won the United States GP ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

In doing so he helped the Scuderia keep the title race alive as Hamilton not able to wrap up the Drivers' Championship.

Raikkonen's win was his first since 2013 when, 113 races ago, he won that year's Australian Grand Prix.

The Sauber-bound Finn, though, has downplayed his success.

"It's not a big deal for me, it's a much bigger deal for a lot of the people.

"If it comes, it comes; if it doesn't, it really doesn't change my life one bit.

"I'm happy we are here and that we win but I think the biggest difference is the way people look at you.

"If you look at people in a different way if they win or not, it doesn't make a lot of difference in my mind.

"But obviously I'm happy, just proving some people wrong it's enough fun for me."

Sunday's win was Raikkonen's 21st in Formula One.
