BJP wants 3 crore families to pledge to bring Modi govt back

LUCKNOW: Gearing up for Lok Sabha elections due next year, UP BJP brass on Saturday charted out the schedule of a list of programmes to be organised with the aim of drumming up and consolidating public support. The party also plans to urge the beneficiaries of government schemes to light a lamp and take a pledge of bringing Modi government back to power in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Presiding over a meeting with state party functionaries at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan in Lucknow on Saturday, UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey and its general secretary (organsation) Sunil Bansal laid out a roadmap of preparations and programmes starting from October 31 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the 182-foot tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Vadodara.

Galvanizing support for the statue inauguration, Pandey and Bansal instructed party functionaries to organise 'Run For Unity' in every district to coincide with the grand programme in Gujarat.

"Maximum participation of people needs to be ensured in the Run for Unity," Bansal told a party workers.


The state BJP brass also announced that public programme would be held at every booth between November 10 and 15. The programme will be attended by a senior leader who would greet booth level committees, interact with members and issue necessary instructions. This will be followed by a bike rally in every booth on November 17.


BJP also plans to hold a 'padyatra' of at least 150 party workers in every assembly constituency between December 1 and December 15 as part of the 150 birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. During 'padyatra' the party workers will meet people and inform them about the details of schemes initiated by the Union and state governments, said Bansal.


The party would subsequently kick off a 'Kamal Jyoti' programme on January 26 next year wherein party workers would meet 3 crore families who have benefited from government schemes and appeal them to light a lamp and take pledge of bringing Modi government back to power in 2019 elections.
