The 38-year-old actress, famous for The Office and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, has just published her very first book, My Squirrel Days, a memoir which traces her journey from being an awkward Missouri adolescent to an Emmy-nominated star.

My Squirrel Days is framed around a series of personal anecdotes and essays. The memoir is a “funny, free-wheeling tour” of Kemper’s life, mentions publisher Scribner.

Normally, memoirs are poised as advice books or inspirational tales. Kemper says she has purposefully swayed from the traditional style and wanted to release a collection of stories that would be both delightful and irreverent. The actress writes in the foreword, “This book is not so much a tribute to brave women everywhere as it is a record of my favourite ice cream brands. I wrote what I knew and I know what I wrote."

About the book, The Daily Herald writes, "Ellie Kemper's debut novel, My Squirrel Days, is exactly what you would expect from the comedian. It's rich in personality, teeming with energy and full of laugh-out-loud moments."

Known for playing the extremely optimistic and cheerful Kimmy Schmidt on television, Ellie Kemper has charted out in happy details about her Midwestern upbringing in St. Loius, the perks of being a red-head, and funny anecdotes about subjects ranging from her motherhood to her favourite ice-cream flavours.
