TNN | Updated: Oct 21, 2018, 23:36 ISTT’puram: A regional geriatric centre, first of its kind in the state, is being set up at Medical College Hospital, to deal with health issues faced by aged people. The centre, which will come up on the ground floor of the new multi-specialty block, will have the most modern facilities, said an official release issued here on Tuesday.
The regional centre envisaged as a model institution will focus on health problems of those above 60 years of age. A total of 32 hi-tech beds have been set up at this centre for inpatients. The regional centre will also provide advanced training for doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and social workers in various hospitals across the state.
Currently, the state has only limited facilities for providing healthcare to aged people, the release said. “Lack of adequate facilities is causing difficulties for doctors as well. A masters’ degree course in geriatric care will be launched soon,” the release added. tnn
